    癌症做為一種遺傳的疾病,許多關於癌症的變化,常是先在染色體中發生,進而影響基因的表現,而導致癌症發生,或形成癌症特殊的標誌。我們在染色體上找到與癌症相關的變化,可以分為兩大類。一類為在生殖細胞(germline cells)就有的變異,例如單一核酸變異(SNP)或是複製數變異(copy number variation),讓帶有這些變異或基因型的人較其他人更容易得病,我們可以利用全基因體關聯性分析(genome-wide association study) 的方法,來研究有哪些變異會造成對疾病的感受性的差異。進而去找到造成這種感受性差異的癌症基因。另一類,則是在體細胞(somatic cells)中成形的癌組織內,常會見到的是染色體畸變(chromosome aberration)和基因表現改變的現象,我們也可以利用生物資訊和比較基因體學的方法,將目前已有的這些資訊整合起來,試著找出與癌症的標誌基因。在我們實驗室裏,就是試著以系統生物學和遺傳統計的方法,將這些訊息進行整合,試著找出與鼻咽癌(nasopharyngeal carcinoma)和肝癌(hepatocellular carcinoma)相關的感受性標誌及標誌基因。
